The Messiah is a central figure in the Abrahamic story of humanity’s relationship with Yahweh (God). His life, teachings, sacrifice, and continuing influence have shaped the faith and lives of people throughout the world. But who is the Messiah, why did he come, and what do his life, death on the cross, and promise of resurrection mean for us today?
The Promised Messiah
The word Messiah means “Anointed One.” Throughout the Abrahamic tradition, the Messiah represents Yahweh’s promise of hope, restoration, and reconciliation for humanity. Messianic believers recognize Y’Shua (Jesus) as this promised Messiah—the one sent to reveal the character and will of Yahweh, teach humanity His righteous way to live, and ultimately bring people into an eternal relationship with God.
Why Did the Messiah Come?
Through Abraham, Moshe (Moses), and the Prophets, the Messiah—Y’Shua—was promised to come to us and restore what Satan had damaged in human relationship with Yahweh by the sins of Adamah (Adam) and Ishah (Eve). Through His life and teachings, Y’Shua showed all humans how Yahweh intended us to live—in righteousness, love, mercy, justice, and true faith. His mission was not only to teach us, but also to pay the price of redemption through His death on the cross and rise again with the promise of eternal life for all who choose to believe.
What did the Messiah Accomplish?
As witnessed by those who knew and followed Him and recorded in the New Testament, the Messiah’s death on the cross paid the redemption price for sin and opened the only way to be truly born again and belong to Yahweh. Through His resurrection, Y’Shua showed that death does not have the final victory. His sacrifice made it possible for Yahweh to forgive us, and His resurrection proves His promise of eternal life to those who believe—that our relationship with Yahweh does not end with the death of the flesh.
What Does This Mean for Us Today?
The Messiah’s work did not end with His death and resurrection. Y’Shua continues to call us into a restored relationship with Yahweh and to live according to the righteous way He taught. To follow the Messiah means more than simply believing that He existed—it means accepting the redemption He provided, being born again, and allowing His teachings to guide how we live, love, forgive, serve others, and walk with Yahweh. The promise of the Messiah gives us hope not only for this life, but for eternal life with Yahweh beyond the death of the flesh.
